frequently asked questions

ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

  • Sound & sensory wellness uses sound, breath, gentle movement and sensory grounding to help the nervous system shift into a state of rest and calm. It’s a body-based approach that supports sleep, stress recovery and emotional regulation.

  • A sound bath is an immersive sound experience where you lie or float comfortably while instruments such as Tibetan bowls, chimes and gongs create gentle vibration and sound around you. The aim is to soften overstimulation, downshift the nervous system and invite deep rest.

  • We combine sound with somatic and sensory practices that speak to the body, not just the thinking mind. Our experiences are quiet, spacious and designed for modern nervous systems – not spiritual performance or high-intensity self-improvement.

  • No. All sessions and retreats are guided and beginner-friendly. You don’t need any experience with meditation, sound baths or mindfulness to join.

  • No. Our work is grounded in sensory, somatic and nervous system practices rather than spiritual or religious frameworks.

  • No. Mellow Habits is not psychotherapy, counselling or medical treatment, and shouldn’t be used as a replacement for professional mental health or medical care. It can sit alongside those supports as a nourishing, body-based practice for rest and regulation.

DURING A SESSION

  • Busy minds are welcome. Our experiences don’t rely on you “clearing your mind” or sitting perfectly still. The sound, breath and sensory cues are designed to gently support the body into a softer, slower state – even if your thoughts are active.

  • Many people do. Falling asleep is very common in sound and sensory sessions and is often a sign that your nervous system feels safe enough to downshift and rest.

  • No. Everything is optional. You’re welcome to simply arrive, rest and receive without sharing or speaking in the group.

  • Absolutely. Many guests attend on their own. The space is held in a way that feels safe whether you’re arriving solo or with someone.

  • Comfortable, warm clothing that you can fully relax in. Think soft layers, socks and anything that makes your body feel cosy and at ease.

    Natural fabrics are preferred.

    Please don’t wear perfum.

Most sessions are gentle and suitable during pregnancy, however every body is different. If you are pregnant (especially in the first trimester), please let us know beforehand so we can support you, or check in with your healthcare provider if you’re unsure.

NERVOUS SYSTEM, SLEEP & SOMATIC

  • Our work uses sound, breath and gentle sensory cues to support the parasympathetic nervous system – the part of the nervous system responsible for rest, digestion and recovery. Many guests describe feeling softer, steadier and more regulated after sessions.

  • While everyone is different, many people report deeper or more restful sleep after evening sound and sensory sessions, as well as multi-day retreats that focus on downshifting the nervous system.

  • Somatic simply means “relating to the body.” Somatic practices focus on sensation, breath and movement rather than just thoughts. At Mellow Habits, we use somatic cues to help the body feel safer, softer and more present.

  • Is this suitable if I’m working with a therapist or health practitioner?
