The Art of Rest
A retreat series exploring the fullness of rest
I created The Art of Rest because I kept seeing the same thing.
Women who were doing everything right and still felt exhausted. Sleeping eight hours and waking up tired. Taking holidays and coming home depleted. Trying to rest and not quite knowing how.
The problem was never that they were not resting enough. It was that they were only resting in one way.
Rest is not one thing.
Inspired by the work of Dr Saundra Dalton-Smith, we design every Art of Rest retreat around seven distinct types of rest that the body and mind need to genuinely restore.
Most of us are depleted across all seven simultaneously without realising it. These retreats address them together.
-
The body finally stopping. Not just sleeping but lying down with no agenda, floating on water, moving slowly without being pushed. We design our days so the body never has to brace.
-
Relief from the constant input of screens, noise, decisions and demands. We select our locations carefully for this reason. Nature, considered design, beautiful finishings, spaces that feel like a big exhale the moment you walk through the door. The environment itself is part of the medicine.
-
Giving the thinking mind somewhere to land other than your to do list. At our retreats everything is taken care of. The meals, the pace, the space. You make no decisions. Your only job is to arrive and follow the day.
-
Being around people you do not have to perform for. Nobody needs anything from you here. The small intimate group of women, all showing up for the same reason, creates a particular kind of safety that is genuinely rare in ordinary life.
-
Connection that fills rather than drains. Our retreats are never large. The depth of conversation that happens when a small group of women slow down together in a beautiful place cannot be manufactured. It simply happens.
-
Making things with your hands. Slowly. Without outcome. Cooking from scratch, weaving, aromatic and tea blending, clay painting with naturally sourced materials, fermentation, things that bring you fully into the present moment and out of your head. Beauty experienced through doing rather than consuming.
-
Learning to look inward. To sit in stillness long enough to hear your own thoughts and feel what your body is actually carrying. Through sound, breath, meditation and silence, we create the conditions for this kind of quiet to arrive.
How we bring this to life
Every Art of Rest retreat weaves these seven pillars into a carefully sequenced experience across two to five days depending on the location.
Our signature floating sound bath, one of the first of its kind in Australia, combines weightlessness on water with the power of singing bowls, gong and percussion to shift the nervous system from stress response into genuine rest. It is unlike anything most women have experienced before.
Breathwork and somatic movement work alongside the sound to release what the body has been holding. Creative sessions using local materials and slow making practices restore the creative and sensory layers. Seasonal nourishing meals, tea and cacao ceremonies, unstructured afternoon time and sleep rituals complete the experience.
Every location is selected with intention. Nature is non negotiable. So is design. We look for properties that feel considered from the moment you arrive. The architecture, the finishings, the light, the way the space holds you. Private villas, architecturally significant properties, intimate venues that would be extraordinary to stay in even without a retreat happening inside them.
Groups are always small. Never more than a handful of women. Depth requires intimacy and this is something we will never compromise on.
Where we are going
In 2027 we will also be introducing couples rest retreats.

FAQs
how do I book a retreat?

Do I need experience with sound, movement or mindfulness at your retreats?
No. Everything is guided, gentle and optional. You simply arrive.
Can I come alone to a retreat?
Yes and most women do. By the time you leave you will know people who understand exactly what you were carrying when you walked through the door.
